Who Can Apply for FAFSA?

To be eligible for federal financial aid for the 2024-2025 award year, students must meet the following criteria:

• Enrollment and Acceptance:

  You must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student in an eligible certificate or diploma program at AVI Career Training.

• Financial Eligibility:

  • You must provide consent for your federal tax information to be directly transferred into your 2024–2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).

  • You agree to use federal student aid solely for educational purposes.

• Academic Progress:

  • You must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), which includes both qualitative (maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0) and quantitative standards (completing your program within 150% of the published length).

• Enrollment Status:

  • You must be enrolled as a regular student, meaning you’re actively pursuing a certificate or diploma offered by AVI Career Training.

• Citizenship or Eligible Noncitizen Status:

  You must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen. Eligible noncitizen categories include:
  Permanent Residents
  RefugeesAsylees
  Conditional resident aliens
  Cuban-Haitian entrants (status pending)
  Conditional Entrants (if issued before April 1, 1980)
  Holders of an Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) with statuses such as Refugee, Asylum Granted, Conditional Resident Alien, or Cuban-Haitian Entrant

Note: Certain non-U.S. citizens, including those holding Temporary Protected Status (TPS), visitor visas (B1/B2), and those with only Notices of Approval to Apply for Permanent Residence (I-171 or I-464), are not eligible for federal student aid.

5. Academic Performance Standards (SAP):

   • To maintain federal financial aid eligibility, students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), which includes:

     • Maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.

     • Successfully completing your program within 150% of the published duration (e.g., if a program requires 600 hours, you must complete within 900 hours attempted).

SAP Monitoring:

• AVI Career Training evaluates student progress at the end of each grading period. Students who fail to meet these standards will receive a warning, may be placed on probation, or face suspension of financial aid eligibility. Students are notified by the Academic and Financial Aid Offices and provided guidance on next steps.

Medical Absences:

• Students needing to miss class for medical reasons must submit a doctor’s note describing their medical condition. If a student misses a final test, they may not advance without special approval from the academic office.
